Stephen Brand

Delaware County Commissioner

“As a sitting Delaware County Commissioner with nearly four decades of professional business experience, I understand firsthand the level of leadership and competence required to guide our county through the complex challenges ahead. Delaware County is entering a period of significant fiscal pressure, beginning with the impacts of Senate Enrolled Act 1 and continuing with additional revenue reductions due to rising health care costs in the years to come.

During the county’s first post–SEA 1 budget, Matt Kantz played a critical role as a County Council member, helping steer difficult financial decisions with discipline, foresight, and accountability. Matt brings extensive professional business experience across multiple industry sectors, and he has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to quickly grasp complex situations and develop sound, strategic solutions. His service on public safety boards and other key councils reflects both his commitment to public service and his understanding of the interconnected responsibilities that keep our county running effectively.

County Commissioners carry significant executive and legislative responsibilities.  Overseeing county operations, managing infrastructure and capital projects, negotiating contracts, adopting ordinances, and working hand-in-hand with the council to ensure long-term financial stability. Delaware County urgently needs a comprehensive, forward-looking financial plan, and Matt Kantz has the experience, judgment, and leadership skills necessary to help lead that effort.

He understands that good management ensures tasks get done, but great leadership ensures the right things get done. Matt is a thoughtful, disciplined leader who puts the county’s long-term interests first, and I am confident he will serve Delaware County with integrity, competence, and vision. I proudly and wholeheartedly endorse Matt Kantz for Delaware County Commissioner, District 3.
